I am sharing with you a synopsis for my memoir of my life in banking.

I hope you will read and enjoy.

In 'My Life as a Banker" A Life Worth Living,' the author Brenda Mohammed combines both History and Geography with her positive outlook to bring her story to life.

The Memoir is the story of a woman's determination to succeed in a profession that did not always favor women.

Set in the lovely Caribbean island of Trinidad. MY LIFE AS A BANKER: A LIFE WORTH LIVING is a fascinating personal memoir.

The book starts with the author’s early life and childhood, leading up to her first job with a Trinidad bank with ties to the United Kingdom.

Her close knit family, her parents, and siblings took care of each other in a special way

Having defied death twice at the ages of eight and nine, she excels and graduates from High School at the tender age of sixteen, and lands a job with Barclays Bank D.C.O. which later became localized.

The book details how the author started at a clerical level and rose to a senior position, solely on the basis of her dedication, hard work and intelligence.

Brenda Mohammad describes how the bank transformed from manual work to mechanization, and then to computerization.

She describes changes in the banking system and changes in the bank's attitude towards its employees throughout her working years, and the important roles she played to bring about changes.

Dealing with customers and their money issues can be stressful, but Brenda proved that hard work and determination pay.

Brenda gradually moved up the ranks, and received several promotions, leading up to senior managerial status.

The Bank assigned her to different branches throughout the island, and she developed a cordial working relationship with her colleagues and staff.

Her farewell party from the staff and fellow workers describes how popular she was during her stay with them

Life is not always perfect and there were sad moments like the death of her parents, brothers, and sisters, that will tug at your heart.

There were also many joyful moments, like her marriage to another banker, and the birth of her two children.

It was a tradition for the groom to write a letter to the bride's father to seek permission to marry his daughter. This is what happened when her husband proposed to her. The description of her marriage is beautiful and emotional.

Brenda travelled extensively to the United States and Europe. Her visits to Germany and Holland are described in a picturesque way.

The scene where Brenda’s father talked to all of his children separately before his death was very touching.

Brenda's belief in God is remarkable.

It was a pleasure for me to interview Hannah Howe,international and best-selling author of the Sam Smith Mystery Series.

Stardust, the story of one woman's dream and hopes for the future. is the tenth book in the Sam Smith Mystery Series.

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Hannah Howe.
I live in Glamorgan, Wales with my long-term partner and our two children.

When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing at school when my teacher asked me to write the school play.
I was around nine or ten at the time and I've been writing ever since.
I write because it comes naturally to me. For as long as I can remember, writing has been an essential part of my day.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I actually wrote six novels before I published Sam's Song.
Those novels remain unpublished and I regard them as my apprenticeship.
The inspiration for Sam's Song arrived when I decided to write about a female private detective.
I love mystery fiction so it seemed natural to write about my own detective.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I do.
My natural writing style is similar to Robert B Parker's, by that I mean I'm a minimalist writer - I don't go in for long, descriptive passages. Instead, I prefer short sentences.
I think this style suits the private detective novel in general.

What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

A turning point for me was reading Robert B Parker's Promised Land.
As I read the story I realized several things: that the story was similar to ideas I'd been developing, that my writing style was similar to Mr. Parker's and that this was the moment to take my writing seriously.

What are your current projects?

At the moment, I'm editing Mind Games, book eleven in the Sam Smith Mystery Series, while collaborating with my narrator on Secrets and Lies, book six, for our audio book.

I'm also researching the background for Digging in the Dirt, book twelve in my series.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Write about what you know and what you believe in.
Be true to yourself.

Other than writing do you have any hobbies?

I love music, especially the music of the 1960s and 1970s, playing chess and researching my family history.

What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I love the classic movies and TV shows of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, especially the mystery and detective shows.
My favourites include a movie called Laura, Dog Day Afternoon and The Third Man.
With TV my favourites include The Rockford Files, Colombo and MASH.

Favorite foods

Like Sam, my narrator, I'm a vegetarian, so I love salads and potato-based meals.
One of my characters, Faye, is a domestic goddess when it comes to preparing cakes and trifles.
When I was pregnant with my eldest I had a craving for trifle and it is still one of my favourite sweets.

The memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan presented by his daughter, author, Brenda Mohammed, records the life story of Dr. Khan as told by himself in the memoirs he so graciously bequeath to all of us who knew and loved him.
This reviewer has had a teacher-pupil relationship with Dr. Khan and has benefitted tremendously from the exposure to high standards in the educational and spiritual atmosphere he provided.
The memoirs tell the story of a man burnt by the vicissitudes of life, challenging and bitter times, yet has emerged renewed, reinvigorated, refined and restored- a life exemplary in every way.
The autobiography is a true reflection of the author's love for and belief in truth, his high standards of etiquette and his pursuit of model writing skills in the English Language.
The simple, comprehensive, yet sophisticated presentation leaves the reader fascinated and curious to know more of a life that offers much to be emulated.
The physical and emotional traumas shared in the book bring deep feelings of sympathy and empathy. Overcoming early childhood bad experiences through divine intervention strengthens the reader's faith in God. Why I Wrote Memoirs

The following is an extract from an article by Rachel McGrath of Indies United Facebook Group.

Brenda Mohammed is a multi-genre author living in Trinidad and Tobago who has now written and published sixteen books.
Six of her books are memoirs and so we asked Brenda to share what instigated her journey to write such personal stories and share them with the world.

Brenda's response:

When I retired from the Bank at an early age, I was depressed.
Everyone in my family noticed that in the weeks leading up to my retirement that my demeanour had changed.
I had ceased to be jovial and fun loving.
My husband and my sisters did their best to brighten up my days and I managed to force a smile or a giggle to appease them, but no one realized that I was feeling as if I had come to the end of my life.
I went through the motions at the grand retirement party, which the bank staff hosted at a popular restaurant in South Trinidad.
Customers and staff were present.
The ambience was enchanting, and the speeches were great.
Superiors, colleagues, customers, and staff showered me with praises and gifts.
Their words brought tears to my eyes. However, all I could think about was, ‘What lies ahead for me?’

Fortunately, for me, my husband had planned a trip for both of us to attend a friend’s wedding in Virginia in the USA.
We left the morning after the retirement party.
All during the flight, I kept remembering the words of the many who spoke at the party.
It all seemed like a dream.
When we arrived in Virginia, I felt relaxed.
Virginia is remarkably beautiful.
We had so much fun over the next three weeks that I forgot all about the bank.

We returned home after a glorious vacation. I gave away all of my working clothes as I felt that I no longer needed them.
I decided to dabble in art.
Out of nowhere, my talent for art surfaced and I painted several pieces, which I framed and hung in my library.
I applied for other jobs and received positive responses from many firms.
I accepted a job in an Insurance Company, and of course had to buy a new wardrobe of clothes.
Since I did not have to work full time, I needed something else to keep me busy.
It was then that I decided to write My Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living.
The book has been very popular with fellow bankers in Trinidad.
I revised the book in 2014, published it on Amazon and Create Space, and donated copies to the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, and my Alma Mater St. Augustine Girls’ High School.

My Life as a Banker - A Life worth Living" is a banker's memoir, in which I describe changes in the banking system and changes in the bank's attitude to its employees throughout my working years in a Trinidad bank, with ties in the United Kingdom.
Personal details of my life are the highlights of the memoir.
Reviewers have described the book as Fascinating, Intriguing, Inspiring, Positive, Heartwarming, and Motivational.

Later on, I was having so much fun as a retiree, that I wrote, Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter.
The book is a sequel to "My Life as a Banker - A Life Worth Living."
I learned through my many experiences at the end of my banking career, that retirement is a time to enjoy life.

I faced many challenges such as cancer, deaths of loved ones, and an accident in Miami, which made her realize that life is very short. On the other hand, I landed a new job in an Insurance company and had numerous travel opportunities after I left my job at the bank. I have proven that when one retires from a first job one does not retire from life.


My recovery from cancer inspired me to write another memoir, I am Cancer Free.
It is a book about my battle with Ovarian Cancer.

The killer disease threatened my life and financial well- being.
My strong faith in God saw me through all the trials I had to undergo.
Cancer does not have to be a death sentence.


My career in the Insurance Industry was successful.
I qualified each year for membership in The Million Dollar Round Table [The Premier Association for Financial Professionals], and this gave me many opportunities to travel to different parts of the United States to attend conferences.
My frequent travels worldwide prompted me to write another memoir, Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the World.

It is an entertaining book filled with reflections of my travels around the world.
I also relate the family adventures and treat readers to a pictorial story of priceless memories.
I describe places visited and the wonderful times my family and I had in our tourist trips.
The book is great to read while on a vacation or for some travel inspiration.


I was later inspired to write yet another memoir – Your Time is Now: A Time to be Born and a Time to die.
I had a driving force within me to write this one.

I based the content on powerful words spoken by King Solomon in the Book of Ecclesiastes about times and seasons. "There is a time to be born and a time to die, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven."

Both My Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living and Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter were nominated in the Category Bio/Memoirs for Metamorph Publishing Summer Indie Book Awards 2016.
The final results showed that My Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living placed second in that category.

I am Cancer Free: A Memoir won the McGrath’s House Indie Book Awards in the category Non-Fiction in November 2016.
