Happy International Children's Day.

A Librarian sent me this message this morning:
"If you want your students and children to love reading......Make sure they have real books in their hands.
There is a world of difference between commercial readers produced by textbook companies and sold only to schools vs., the kinds of books children might actually choose if they saw them in a bookstore.

If you want your students to love reading......Read aloud great stories everyday.

If you want your students to love reading…...Balance written responses with plenty of time to just enjoy their books.

If you want them to love reading...…Make it a conversation not a lecture."

Today I want to share a book for children by an author of children's books.
Author Millie Slavidou is from Greece and she has written several children's books.

SPARKY is her latest book.

Sparky is a newly-hatched dragon with a problem: he can't breathe fire. Not wanting to stand out from all the other dragons, he leaves the nest and sets off on an adventurous journey to solve his problem. Finally, he meets Nicky, who is determined to help him on his quest to find the secret of fire.
Will Sparky ever discover how to breathe fire?

If you want an Audio Book for your kids who like pets this may be the ideal one.
She Cried for Me is a heart-wrenching story for pet and dog lovers.
A young dog becomes tired of being underfed and abused.
Scared of her owner's threat to kill her, she runs away.
Dog catchers are on her trail.
The owner of a dog sanctuary spots her.
Will she be rescued?
Can she find a loving home with a loving family.?
Extract of a Review:
"The story is clever and really gives you an insight into what this special dog thought about those around them, as well as their own worries and fears about things and situations they did not understand.
If you are an animal lover, or you appreciate that life is passing every single moment, or you believe that pets are not just pets - something to be discarded when they die, you will take something from this book.
I will not say you will enjoy it - it hits home on many points that if you lost a pet recently, it may not be the time to read it.
But the important thing to recognise is that this is a story with a heart as big as the dog at its centre, and if that doesn't convince you to read it today, nothing will."

Amazon Reviewer:
"As seen through the wide-open eyes of an adorable teddy bear, these stories are of Squeaky Doo’s adventures on the beach, in California, in Orlando, on a cruise, and in Trinidad. This teddy bear loves to travel with the family and the grandparents. Sometimes an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and their friends join in the fun-filled activities or celebrations. A common theme is Squeaky Doo getting lost or left behind –on the beach, at the wedding, at a store in the mall, on the cruise ship or getting snatched by a thief. Not to worry though…as Squeaky Doo somehow gets to go on yet another adventure."
