HOW TO
WRITE A BOOK DESCRIPTION [BLURB]
After the title and the book cover, your description is the
most important book marketing material.
The book description goes most prominently on the back
cover, and the top of your Amazon page (below the price and above the book
reviews). It’s crucial it be compelling because readers make buying decisions
from the book description.
Describe your book in simple, straightforward, and
consumer-friendly terms. Your description should be at least 150-200 words
long.
Start with a clear and punchy headline, an “elevator pitch,”
or “a hook” that can stand alone and is grabbing. The headline should sell your
book without an interested person having to read more. Make
it bold and follow it with a paragraph break.
Highlight what matters to a reader - genre, key topics and
themes.
Your book description should have a strong selling focus.
