Rich Futuristic Settings:
Brenda Mohammed crafts an intense, character-driven sci-fi thriller set
in a richly imagined futuristic Caribbean world in 2036. The episodic structure
gives it a dynamic, suspenseful edge, making it well-suited for TV adaptation.
The story’s high-tech elements, including robots, brain-enhancing inventions, and
weaponized zombies, maintained tension throughout all four episodes. The fusion
of sci-fi, dark fantasy, Carnival celebrations, Caribbean folklore, and beaches
makes the story both unique and immersive, creating a visually stunning and
culturally rich backdrop.
Based on Reality: The zombie fiction is purely the
author’s imagination, inspired by the 2016 Zika virus outbreak, and where Good
triumphs over Evil.
Strong Character Arcs: The protagonist, Dr. Steven Sharpe, undergoes a profound
transformation, evolving from a victim to a hero. He was raised by the very man
who destroyed his family—Bill Grady, the corrupt Chief of Police. Yet instead
of becoming a monster, Steven became a compassionate healer and the island’s
hero. The antagonist, Bill Grady (Zeeka),
is a psychologically complex character, adding depth to the conflict. Known to his undead army as Master Zeeka, he
is the Architect of Chaos. Cold, calculating, and consumed by vengeance, he is
the embodiment of twisted genius. He kidnapped Dr. Steven Sharpe when he was
seven, changed his name to Jason Stephens, threatened to kill his family if he
escaped, sent him to medical school, and used him to create a vaccine for
pregnant women with the zika virus. When the vaccine was rejected by the Gosh
Hospital, he bribed a Government official to give him the dead babies and used
the vaccine to create zombies.
Episode 1. Dr.
Raynor Sharpe witnesses a chilling sight outside his beachfront home, zombies
marching in unison, only to vanish moments later. Soon after, a lone zombie
known as Number Nine arrives at Gosh Hospital, warning Dr. George Brown of an
impending massacre orchestrated by his enigmatic Master Zeeka. He said that
Zeeka, fuelled by revenge, seeks retribution for the events of 2016, when Dr.
Brown refused a vaccine that could have saved unborn babies from microcephaly,
a disease linked to the Zika virus. His wife perished in childbirth, and his
new-born did not survive. Fast forward to February 2036, and chaos unfolds.
Fifty-one lethal zombies, disguised as a sailor band, infiltrate the Carnival
celebration. With transponders controlling their fake heads, they unleash
destruction, leaving 125 dead and 75 severely injured before disintegrating
into ash. Police suspect Number Nine perished in the shootout with the other
lethal zombies. Dr. Raynor Sharpe and
Dr. Janet Jones marry.
Episode 2.
Detective Jack Wildy stumbles upon a flash drive holding shocking evidence.
Master Zeeka is none other than Chief of Police Bill Grady. At the same time,
Dr. Jason Stephens, hiding deep secrets, hands over another flash drive to
Janet, asking her to deliver it to Raynor. The drive confirms his real
identity. He is Dr. Steven Sharpe, Raynor’s long-lost brother, who was
kidnapped by Bill Grady [Zeeka] forty years ago. Determined to expose the
truth, Janet plays a key role in reuniting the brothers and unveiling Zeeka’s
real identity. As the investigation deepens, police discover evidence that nine
flesh-eating zombies lived in Grady’s basement, triggering a massive manhunt
for Grady and his monstrous creations, who were hiding in the forest.
Episode 3. As the manhunt for Grady intensifies, he
abandons his zombies in the forest and makes his way to Dr. Raynor Sharpe’s home
in search of Steven Sharpe. However, his
plan is cut short when Miranda, Janet’s wonderful robot helper,
spots him with a gun. With a swift display of taekwondo skills, she captures
him and alerts the authorities. Grady is charged with over 200 crimes, to which
he confesses. In a desperate plea, he asks to meet Steven, revealing his
twisted past, claiming he was once engaged to Margaret Sharpe, Steven’s mother,
before she left him for another man. Convinced that Steven is his biological
son, he kidnapped him all those years ago. But Steven rejects his claim and
refuses to forgive him. Grady takes his own life in prison. His ashes are
handed to Steven, while the police use Grady’s high-tech weapons to shrink and
destroy his remaining zombies.
Episode 4. The finale. Number Nine is alive. Mandy’s robot assistant, Eve, discovers him in Steven’s backyard, where Grady’s ashes were buried. He collapses from an epileptic seizure, and Eve alerts Gosh Hospital. Tests confirm that Number Nine is not a zombie, but Bill Grady’s biological son, misdiagnosed with microcephaly. Raynor helps him choose a new name, Nieman Grady. Steven’s brilliance shines once more as he cures Nieman’s brain ailment, Craniosynostosis, with his breakthrough CrainX invention. His medical contributions redefine the island’s identity, transforming Carnival Tourism into Medical Tourism, securing his place as Gosh’s ultimate hero.
