WORLD POETRY DAY
21st March 2026
Poetry has been
around since ancient Biblical times.
King David, Moses,
and King Solomon wrote the Psalms.
Poets share ideas,
express emotions, and create imagery.
And proudly present
them to readers in beautiful poetry.
*
With poetry, we
can write about anything we feel.
True things, and
even things unreal.
Poetry can take us
into an enchanted world.
A land of dreams,
reality, hope, and places untold.
*
Poetry is
long-lived and an important part of art and culture.
Blank verse,
rhymed, free verse, narrative, and Tanka,
Pastoral, sonnet,
elegies, odes, limericks, epics, and haiku.
Even Soliloquy,
villanelle, lyrical, ballad, and Gogyohka, too.
*
When I visited
Shakespeare’s hometown, I grew to love Poetry.
Like a stranger
standing at my door, it waited to greet me.
It brought out
the best in me and made me happy.
On World Poetry
Day, I display my poetry books proudly.
