Gold Award Winner in Emagazine Readers Choice 2018 - Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka
The results are out. I am so excited.
A very big Thank You to all who voted.
Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka is the Gold Winner in Emagazine Readers Choice Awards 2018 in the Category Science Fiction and Fantasy.
This is the second award received by Zeeka Chronicles since it was published in 2017.
In 2017 the book won a bronze award in the category science fiction from Metamorph Publishing.
In addition, Readers Favorite gave it a five-star review and five-star seal in September 2017.
Here is a mini-critique of the book by EMagazine:
INTRO: Good futuristic setup, interesting book, and compelling characters.
CHARACTER/WORLD BUILDING: Great world development, Readers are introduced to a tropical beach with robots and confusion, or is it a hallucination?
COVER DESIGN: great contrasing colours, genre specific.
PRESENTATION: Professionally edited.
Why I wrote Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka.
I wrote this book to highlight the fact that improvement in modern technology and scientific improvements in the medical field can never improve the minds of individuals.
The book is set in the year 2036 when there is a great advancement in medical and information technology.
It is a high-tech world.
Robots act as home helpers and police use high tech weaponry, electric cars, and smartphones.
The hospitals are well equipped with state of the art equipment and doctors and scientists are making significant breakthroughs and inventing cures for patients with critical illnesses.
Yet, in that high-tech world, the minds of human beings did not change.
Can Mankind ever achieve a sinless state?
Will human beings forever continue to foster greed, malice, anger, jealousy, and the desire to control and take revenge?
When I was born, there was no electricity and therefore no refrigerators, air-conditioning, televisions, telephones, and amenities in our homes like we have today.
Education was not even a priority and there were not many schools and universities.
Today, in spite of all the new and advanced developments, crime has increased to unstoppable levels.
What will change humanity?
Modern inventions and new technology will never change the evil minds of men.
In the book of John 3: Verse 7, Jesus said, “Ye must be born again.”
About the book
Zeeka Chronicles is about a vengeful man who misuses science for revenge in the year 2036 to create havoc in a small exotic island named Gosh.
He is angry for two reasons.
After his former lover jilted him, he married another on rebound.
His wife contracted the zika virus when she was pregnant.
His child was born deformed as a result, and his wife died.
He blamed the hospital for her death and his deformed child.
This vengeful man kidnapped the son of his former lover and the story evolves thereafter.
My Favourite Character.
Dr. Steven Sharpe is my favorite character in Zeeka Chronicles.
One fateful day, when Steven was just seven years old, he was riding his bike home after visiting a friend who lived in a secluded part of the city.
His bike broke down, and he was trying to fix it.
A police jeep stopped, and the police officer asked if he could help.
There was no one else in the vehicle.
Steven saw no harm in allowing a police officer to help since they are there to protect and serve.
Or, so he thought.
The police officer came out of the vehicle, looked at his bike, turned it over and tried to repair it.
He then told Steven that it needed to go to a bicycle shop.
He offered to drive Steven home.
Steven trusted the police officer, accepted the lift, and never saw his home and family again.
The police officer, who turned out to be Zeeka, threatened the boy to kill his parents and brother if he ever tried to escape from him.
He boasted about his police connections and Steven was fearful of him and did whatever he asked.
The man could not legally adopt him and changed the boy’s name to Jason Stephens.
He sent him to medical school and he turned out to be the top medical doctor and research scientist on the island of Gosh.
Zeeka tried to use him for evil means.
Dr. Steven Sharpe knew all of Zeeka’s secrets.
Who are the primary readers of your book?
I wrote the book for both mature audiences and young adults.
The book contains five stories in the series, which are being sold separately.
Why should readers buy it?
The benefits to readers are the underlying lessons to be learned from the content, as well as a saving on both paperback and kindle versions. Instead of paying for the five books in the series, it will cost cheaper to buy one book.
How long did it take to write it?
The series took me one year to write.
How did you come up with the title?
I used the name Zeeka because it is the name of the main character and the close relation to the zika virus.
Why did you choose this cover?
My cover designer, Sharon Brownlie, generously donated the cover.
She gives away three covers annually.
I just happened to see her post about it on Facebook and contacted her immediately for the one I used for this book.
The cover depicts the story.
What do you want to say to your readers?
I do hope that you enjoy it and will leave a review.

Add Alexa Amazon Echo Dot to any Room
Readers, do you own an Amazon Alexa Echo Dot?
If you do you can ask Echo Dot Amazon Alexa to read your Audible or Kindle books to you so you can listen while you’re cooking, folding laundry, or hanging out around the house.
Say, “Alexa, read my book,” and Alexa will pick up the latest book you’ve read or listened to, or ask for a specific book title from your Audible or Kindle library by saying “Alexa, read The Hobbit.”
You can also ask Alexa to listen to bedtime stories, find quotes, and more.
Authors, If you are tired of editing and rereading your work you can use Amazon Alexa Echo Dot to read it to you.
If you are reviewing a book, Amazon Alexa Echo Dot can help you to read it from your Kindle App.
Echo Dot (2nd Generation) - Smart speaker with Alexa read part of a book that I was reviewing and made it easier for me.
Alexa's voice is very distinct and she uses all the right expressions. It was a delight listening to her as I was too tired to read it all myself. Try it. If you do not already have one here is the link.

Heart Warming Tales - Six stories of Romance - New and Updated.
I recently revised Heart-Warming Tales and added two new stories.
HEARTWARMING TALES consists of six stories of Romantic Relationships.
.....
The Caregiver is a romance fiction.
Torn between two men who love her, Lena faces a choice between Ben and Steve.
Whom will she marry and what will be the outcome?
Why didn't Steve try to stop Lena from leaving his home?
.........
Her Online Predator is a mystery - thriller /romance.
This story teaches a valuable lesson.
Be careful with whom you make friends on the internet.
That person may not be the one he or she claims to be.
Did Jean finally meet John Stanmore?
........
.
A Marriage on the Rocks is about a young couple who had serious problems in their marriage.
Maria left the marital home to find a more exciting way of life.
Did she reconcile with her husband?
Where did she go after leaving Roberto?
.........
Dead Business is about a suspicious woman who doubted her husband.
Mary was determined to find out the truth about John's job.
Did she?
.........
The Psychiatrist and the Thief is a comedy-mystery.
A thief pretends to be a patient of the psychiatrist, and a series of blunders occur.
Was he finally caught?
........
No Wedding Bells for Amy: Amy is rejected by a married man and she goes after his son.
Death and destruction follow Amy.
Will she destroy those who love her?
........
Here is the latest five-star review on Amazon UK for the revised book:
Brenda Mohammed is a versatile and gifted writer and this collection of stories allows her talent to shine. Each story is beautifully written with touches of humour to make you smile. The subtext to the stories makes the reader think and adds a sense of value to each tale. The variety is also impressive and I dare say Brenda Mohammed could turn her hand to any genre.
In a collection, everyone will have their own favourite.
For me, that would be The Psychiatrist and the Thief, but all the stories have great merit and are well worth reading.

An Interview with Brenda Mohammed
Yvonne Daniels interviewed Author Brenda Mohammed
1.How did you decide what genre to write?
I am a multi-genre writer and have written eighteen books to date.
The first book I wrote was I am Cancer Free – A Memoir in 2013.
I wrote that book to tell people suffering from that disease, cancer does not have to be a death sentence.
That book won first place in non-fiction in McGrath’s House Indie Book Awards in 2016.
It also received a five-star review and five-star seal from Readers Favorite.
After that, I wrote six memoirs My Life as a Banker, Retirement is Fun, Travel Memoirs with Pictures, Memoirs of Dr. Andrew M. Khan, [my father’s memoirs, which received four five-star reviews from Readers Favorite] a spiritual memoir, Your Time is Now, and a Dog’s Tale She Cried For Me.
I tried fiction because of something that my brother said to me prior to his death. He wrote in reference to my book, ‘My Life as a Banker: A Life Worth Living,”
“Your book makes very pleasant reading, and your literary expression is superb and easy to follow. You have an excellent talent, and I think you should follow up on a leisurely basis with perhaps publishing a book of short stories. With fiction, you will have greater opportunity to use your imagination and your undoubted descriptive ability. You used the word “fantasize” to create a situation. This is an outstanding quality, which you should continue to use because it is imagination, which disposes of everything, coming from within you. It creates beauty, justice, and happiness, which are everything in this world.”
I took my brother’s advice and in the year 2014 wrote, ‘Heart-Warming Tales,’ ‘Stories People Love, and Adventures of Squeaky Doo.’ The three books are short story collections.
An idea for a science fiction series came to me and in February 2016, I published Zeeka and the Zombies: Revenge of Zeeka Book 1.
Within a few months, I released Zeeka’s Child Book 2, and Zeeka Returns Book 3.
The series scored a double with Readers Favorite.
I had compiled the first three books into a trilogy called Revenge of Zeeka: Horror Trilogy.
In September 2016, I submitted the trilogy to Readers Favorite for a free review.
The book received a five-star review and five-star seal.
The following year I added two more books to the series - Zeeka’s Ghost Book 4 and Resurrection Book 5.
I compiled the five books into one book called Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka.
I sent it to Readers Favorite for a free review and it received a five-star review and five-star seal.
A fan nominated the book for the Metamorph Publishing Summer Indies Book Awards.
It won Best Science Fiction third place in September 2017.
2.When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I did not plan to be a writer.
I loved my former careers.
I was a former Bank Manager and upon retirement I ventured into Insurance Underwriting.
I was successful in both careers but a diagnosis of cancer changed my life.
I am now happy to be a writer.
3.How do you research for your plot and characters?
I must admit that I had no fixed method for writing my books.
My Memoirs and that of my father’s are life experiences and required no research.
With the fictional short stories some of them are based on true events in the lives of people I know.
For the Zeeka series the upsurge in the zika virus led me to compile the series. I was rather immersed in that series and felt as if the characters told me what to write.
I used certain medical terms which I researched on the internet.
4.What's your latest book you published?
The latest book I published was How to Write For Success in December 2017.
I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with new and aspiring writers.
The book received a five=star review and five-star seal from Readers Favorite on 31st December 2017.
5.You have travelled a lot. Do you use your travels as setting for your books?
No. I have travelled a lot and details of my travels are in one book, Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the World which is an illustrated picture book filled with reflections of my travels around the world.
In this pictorial travel book of my priceless memories, I describe places visited and the wonderful times my family and I had in our tourist trips.
The book is great to read while on a vacation or for some travel inspiration.
I have referred to some of my travels in my other memoirs.
However, most of my stories, besides the Zeeka series which is set on a fictitious island in the future, are set in my home country, Trinidad in the Caribbean.
6.What type of heroine do you like to create - a strong one that's not afraid of tears, or a meek one who overcomes her fears?
Depending on the story I use both types of heroines to provide contrast.
7.Do you have someone who you base your hero on?
No. I do not have any particular person in mind when I write my stories.
8.What makes you decide to write a series or standalone?
Writing a series gives me time to figure out in what direction the story should take.
A series is also easier on the reader.
Reviewers commented that they appreciated the break in the stories as they are bedtime readers.
9.What about your family: do they read your books?
Yes. My sisters and children look forward to reading my books.
My husband although very supportive, does not like to read. However, he loves to read the book reviews.
10.What subject will you write about in the future?
I love to experiment with other genres and right now I am writing a romance novel, The Gift of Love.

How can one man misuse science for revenge?
In a futuristic world, despite advanced technology and modern scientific methods, human nature remains the same.
Science can be used to do harm in the wrong hands.
The trend towards vigilante justice can exacerbate as newer generations become bolder, braver, and more educated.
Such was the case on the fictitious island of Gosh in the year 2036.
One man used science coupled with his authoritative position to seek revenge for something he could not forgive and forget.
Zombies, ghosts, and robots all play out their rolls creating twists and turns, in every chapter of this futuristic tale of action and mystery.
Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka, a science fiction novel, has once more been nominated for the Emagazine Award 2018.
