Poetry has been around since Biblical times. 

King David of Israel wrote most of the Psalms in the Bible, as well as Moses and King Solomon.

Like other forms of literature, poets write to share ideas, express emotions and create imagery for readers.

Poetry is long-lived and remains an important part of art and culture.

There are 15 poetic styles and perhaps more. They are Blank verse, rhymed poetry, free verse, epics, narrative poetry, haiku, pastoral poetry, sonnet, elegies, ode, limericks, lyric poetry, ballad, soliloquy, and villanelle. Recently, other forms named Gogyohka and Tanka joined this list.

Gogyohka simply means verse which is written in five lines, but each line generally represents one phrase. It has a different feel to the five-line verse commonly found in Western poetry. Tanka is a Japanese form of poetry.

Author Brenda Mohammed published fifty-three books of which fourteen are poetry collections.

Happy New Year, Dear Readers.

I do hope that you had a wonderful Christmas holiday and that you're ready to start the New Year with renewed zeal and energy.

I am recovering from a season of adventure myself.

I stayed in my own country, but I entertained visitors from abroad.

That meant travelling throughout the island of Trinidad with them and catering to their needs.

I enjoyed it tremendously, as I got an opportunity to visit fabulous places that have been upgraded since my last visit.
