ANTHOLOGY DEDICATED TO TRINIDADIAN NOBEL PRIZE WINNER

ANTHOLOGY DEDICATED TO TRINIDADIAN NOBEL PRIZE WINNER

This Anthology, ‘Creating a Better World,’ compiled by 68 poets of the How to Write for Success Literary Network, is dedicated to the memory of the great Trinidadian writer and Nobel Prize Winner 2001 – Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul - Nobel Laureate.

V. S. Naipaul was knighted in 1989. He was awarded the David Cohen British Literature Prize by the Arts Council of England in 1993.

In 2001, V. S. Naipaul was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for having united perceptive narrative and incorruptible scrutiny in works that compel us to see the presence of suppressed histories.

He held honorary doctorates from Cambridge University and Columbia University in New York, and honorary degrees from the universities of Cambridge, London, and Oxford. He lived in Wiltshire, England.

V. S. Naipaul died Saturday, 11 August 2018 at his London home at the age of 85.

How do we create a better world?

68 poets have stated their views in impressive poetic verses in this Anthology, CREATING A BETTER WORLD. If these verses are read by the masses and acted upon, there will certainly be a change in attitudes and thinking, and our vision for a better world will be achieved.

Crime, abuse, environmental pollution, lack of love for our brothers and sisters, selfishness, anger, jealousy, and greed, are pollutants in this world. The burning question is; can our leaders bring about change? The answer is No. Change must begin with each of us. It begins in our hearts.

It is not too late for parents to take on the leadership role, and guide their children on the right path.

Children are the future of the world. With proper guidance, they can create a better world

I take this opportunity to thank each of the participants in this much-needed Anthology.

Dr. Vandita Dharni – Chief Literary Ambassador - India for HTWFS, wrote an impressive Foreword, and Anganie Ramsaroop did a wonderful job of editing the manuscript that I compiled.

Last, but not least, I thank the Administration of CIESART - EUROPE for their motivation and encouragement, with special mention to Lily Baylon, President, who wrote the Preface, and Vitrina of the European Showcase in Spain.

CIESART – EUROPE has a presence in five continents, Europe, America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and over 80 countries. They have a ‘preponderant mission of cultural integration for the benefit of international organizations, seeking promotion and development mechanisms to establish a fluid relationship between countries worldwide,’ in the field of literature and art.

CIESART [the legal abbreviation] - The International Chamber of Writers & Artists is a service–oriented and non-profit organization.

HUMMING BIRD MAGAZINE - A PROJECT OF CIESART TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

Greetings to all!

In this Issue of our Magazine for CIESART – TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO we will inform you of all the projects undertaken during the course of the year 2022 – 2023.

Our first project was an International Anthology – CREATING A BETTER WORLD. 68 poets from countries all over the world participated.

We dedicated that anthology to the memory of the great Trinidadian writer and Nobel Prize Winner 2001 – Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul - Nobel Laureate.

The book was a No. 1 hot new release one day after it was published, and an Amazon No 1 bestseller in Poetries and Anthologies. The Kindle Version was given free to readers, but Amazon advised that they have sole discretion on price, and they have since changed the price to 0.99 cents.

We received tremendous support from the How to Write for Success Literary Network of which Brenda Mohammed is the Founder, and Florabelle Lutchman, a Chief Literary Ambassador.

The Foreword was written by Dr. Vandita Dharni, the Chief Literary Ambassador for India, of the How to Write for Success Literary Network, that has always been dedicated to the promotion of Peace, Love, and Humanity, with sub-forums for Poems for Suicide Prevention, and Poems Against Domestic Violence.

Anganie Ramsaroop, Director General, was the  Editor,

and Brenda Mohammed published the book.

Certificates were distributed by CIESART – SPAIN  to all participants.

Earlier this year, HTWFSLN published an Anthology titled PEACE BEGINS WITH US. The Foreword was written by Dr. Lovelyn P. Eyo who is a Peace Ambassador and Continental Director of CIESART, and Chief Advisor to HTWFSLN.  It was a No. 1 bestseller, as were all previous anthologies.

The Forum had previously also published two Anthologies with poems against Domestic Violence, and two with poems for Prevention of Suicide.

Another of our major projects was a National Book and Arts Fair in South Trinidad in January 2023 to promote literacy. It was well patronized by authors, artists, and book and art lovers. You can read all about it in a later article.

We paid a visit to an animal sanctuary where abandoned animals – cats, dogs, and horses are rescued, and where animals and the environment are given top priority. The owner of the sanctuary is Kathryn Cleghorn, a School Vice Principal and sister of Dr. Farley Cleghorn, who was a nominee for the SEA Crystal award in Spain, and a winner in the Gabriella Award in Chile. You can also read about this project in the next few pages.

You will also read a delightful combination of articles and poems on peace, love, and humanity by Florabelle Lutchman, with artistic illustrations by Rhonda Cleghorn, a nurse and artist.

This Magazine was designed, compiled, and published by the President, Brenda Mohammed, to showcase all our projects for the wider community.

The International Chamber of Writers and Artists - CIESART - SPAIN.  invites all Writers; Poets or Cultural Managers from all over the world to be part of their organization. Every year in January you can request your application form, fill it out and send it, to request your membership number from CIESART in Spain between the hours of 9.00 am to 15.00 pm. to WhatsApp number +34 642 13 18 08. It will be a pleasure to welcome you into the global organization

PEACE BEGINS WITH US

The world needs peace and love more than ever today.

Every day we hear of wars and disputes among the nations.

A lack of communication leads to disagreements and war breaks out.

I am of the view that when we have inner peace, only then can we live in peace with other people.

When we live peacefully with one another in our families, with our neighbours, in our cities, and in our society, then can we transmit peace to neighbouring countries and beyond.

It is not possible to change everything in the world, but if our hearts and minds are focused on peaceful things we will achieve peace around us.

A spiritual leader said that world peace starts with the individual finding personal peace: “The creation of a more peaceful and happier society has to begin from the level of the individual, and from there, it can expand to one's family, to one's neighborhood, to one's community, and so on.”

We can achieve inner peace by spending time with nature, meditating, giving thanks, and taking responsibility for our actions.

Never let mistakes discourage you. Declutter your mind and your space. Be content whatever your situation. Never give up, and most of all love yourself.

I thank Princess Lovelyn P. Eyo,  for her brilliant Foreword. She touched on every salient point and conveyed the true message of the title of this Anthology. I also thank Muhammad Shanazar, Special Representative Ambassador, International Human Rights Observer, United Nations, and Member of Amnesty International UK at Secretary General World Institute for Peace, Nigeria, for his fabulous medley of peace poems.

I  thank every Ambassador of the How to Write for Success Literary Network and the 80 participating members of this worthy Anthology, PEACE BEGINS WITH US.

Last, but not least, I thank the Editor, Florabelle Lutchman, one of HTWFSLN's Ambassadors, for editing the manuscript.

Here is my poem:

PEACE BEGINS AT HOME

If humans recognize that God is our Father

We should consider each one a sister or brother.

We must respect all humans as members of one family.

And live with one another in peace and harmony.

*

Strife in the family began in the days of Adam and Eve.

Cain killed his brother Abel because of greed.

Fighting within families for property and money,

Has always been a problem in the homes of many.

*

World peace cannot be achieved if there’s always strife.

Peace must begin at home and in your own life.

Lives are more valuable than material gain.

From harming and demeaning others, please abstain.
