Here is the latest review on Amazon.
“Heart Warming Tales” is a collection of short stories, unified by the same theme - love.
The mood of each is different: some wistful and sad, some uplifting and inspirational, but each is unique in its own way.
Stories of sacrifice, betrayal, deception, hope, and forgiveness are brought to life through a kaleidoscope of characters who only try to find their true love (or struggle not to lose it).
Such subject matters as human trafficking, one’s spouse’s failing health, domestic abuse and many more are also revealed through the protagonists’ eyes, which will certainly find a response from many readers. Well-written and easy to read, these stories will definitely warm many hearts.

"A Time to Read: A Beautiful and Soulful Tale about Trust and Belief in the Lord!
Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having herself experienced a lifetime of tragedy and joy, Author Brenda Mohammed assumes the mantle of theologian/philosopher in her quest to understand and explain the elegance and meaning found in the biblical verses extolled in Ecclesiastes 3. In "Your TIME is NOW: A Time to be Born and a Time to Die", Mohammed fully examines each memorable and precious verse and applies them to her own life experiences. In doing so, she takes the reader on a journey through a lifetime filled with trials and tribulations, despair and hope, loss and success. The author eloquently defines Ecclesiastes 3, pointing out that, by freely accepting God's will, she has been amply blessed with a faithful family, loyal mentors, good friends, and a full life. She successfully leaves her readers with a message of hope and inspiration by sharing her belief that, through introspection and prayer, one may find meaning within the events of their own everyday experiences. She appears to be a firm proponent to the old adage, "When days seem at their darkest, surrendering and trusting in the divine will ensure peace and prosperity". All in all, I found this book to be quite engaging. The author's reflections on her childhood were beyond charming in some spots, yet brought me to tears in others. Her candidness about her relationships with parents, siblings, husband, and her own children reminded me so much of my own family's saga, and I must admit that I was thrilled to find a read that tugged at my heartstrings the way this book did! For any individual seeking solace and meaning in today's hectic world, "Your TIME is NOW: A Time to be Born and a Time to Die" is a beautiful and soulful read. Thank you, Brenda Mohammed, for sharing your journey with me!"

Readers, this is shocking
This is the spookiest thing to happen.
I just read an article in science news where new clinical trials are being conducted to attempt to bring back humans to life.

It is amazing to see the imaginative mind of the author, Brenda Mohammed, who tells these so true to life tales.
These are indeed stories that people will love to read -some fiction and some truthful.
The Headmaster's Daughter dates back to the 1950';s. This story gives an excellent idea of how life was lived during those days. The strict Headmaster was feared by everyone but love conquered all in the end. Children obeyed their parents no matter what. Education was the goal of many and Paul in spite of having to leave his love behind went ahead to further his studies. That caused great admiration for him and when he returned to ask for Marie's hand in marriage, her father readily agreed. Marie's dream had come true, True love and further education were brought to her door.
This is indeed a remarkable story and should be read by everyone who believes love conquers all and there is always a whispering hope in the air.
Travel Dreams of Yesterday is an exciting, true story of two girls travelling abroad for the first time. This story gives details of all the fun and adventures they had and the many challenges faced and how they were overcome. Their beautiful memories stay with them always.
The author has even included a poem about this first travel abroad.
The Dirtiest of all Evils tells the story of murder, a change from her other stories. It is nail-biting and grips you with fear and anxiety.
Belief in God changed the entire plot.
Read why Mark was set free.

'The Moral of this story is never give up on your dreams.' - author Brenda Mohammed.
With a title like Stories People Love,, this book already had a lot to live up to. As I read each of the four short stories in turn, the change from fiction to non-fiction made reading this collection all the more pleasurable.
As a bit of a travel fiend myself, the standout story for me is Travel Dreams of Yesterday. The author writes this so well that you really feel you are journeying along with her.
Is it a spoiler to say each story is a heart warming one (a reference to one of the author's other works)?
I don't think so. Each element of the collection's opener, A Headmaster's Daughter, twists and turns and demands that you keep reading.
The Dirtiest of All Evils is intriguing as a murder mystery and seems initially out of place. But reading the stories again, it feels a good fit.
This is a neat and extremely readable collection and shows an author who is able to write fiction and non-fiction elements seamlessly.
It's not an easy combination and yet the author pulls it off admirably.

My Life as a Banker: A Life Worth Living
Book Description
Fascinating, Intriguing, Inspiring, Positive, Heartwarming, and Motivational Memoir.
My Life as a Banker - A Life worth Living" is a banker's memoir, in which the writer describes changes in the banking system, and changes in the bank's attitude to its employees throughout her working years in a Trinidad bank, with ties in the United Kingdom.
Personal details of this banker's life are the highlights of the memoir.
My Life as a Banker: A Life Worth Living was voted second in Bio/Memoirs in Metamorph's Publishing Summer Indie Book Awards 2016.
My Life as a Banker has received many five-star reviews. These are the top reviews for the book.
"My Life as a Banker" is an autobiographical account of the author's experiences during her career in the bank. She sets the stage by talking about her childhood and family and how her early experiences shaped her outlook on life.
Throughout her working life the author always showed extreme devotion to her job and was constantly rewarded with praise, exciting new opportunities and challenges, as well as job promotions. She was able to succeed in her chosen career through sheer hard work and determination accompanied by her natural intelligence. Her achievements were always recognized by her superiors and she was rightfully rewarded. She started out as a bank clerk and eventually rose through the ranks assuming various managerial positions.
The author attributes her success to her faith and belief in God. She would pray for wisdom and guidance every time she faced a challenging situation. Whenever she had a problem, she prayed about it and the problem was miraculously solved. She continually speaks of the influence of God in her life and in the life of her family. The strength of her faith helped her to overcome any diversities that entered her life.
This book is important in its portrayal of life in the author's native country, Trinidad, in the latter part of the twentieth century.
It records some historical events through which the author lived. One such event is the takeover of the government by Muslimeens in 1990 and the scare throughout the country. Other significant events are the changes in the banking system and the bank's attitude to its employees throughout the years. In addition, the book shows how a young, determined girl just out of high school was able to have a highly successful career in the area of her choice and live a fulfilling life.
The book describes not only the author's work, but the fabulous vacations she was able to enjoy during her vacation time.
Her vacations always left her refreshed and ready to face new challenges.
Overall, the author views her life in a positive sense and is appreciative of the wonderful times and good luck she has experienced throughout her career. She is grateful for all the good that has occurred in her life and is thankful to God.
The book is written in a clear and easy to read style and can be enjoyed by people of all ages."
Inspiring and eminently interesting story
Bymarmalizeron June 26, 2016
Format: Paperback
For those of us who are not in the banking industry, and for me, especially living in a country where the capital is the financial hub of the country (perhaps the world) you might think a story called My Life As A Banker would be too dry to enjoy.
Author Brenda Mohammed has written quite a few books across different genres. This book is a relatively quick read but readers can be taken along her life's journey as they turn the pages.
I found myself more interested in the 'Life Worth Living' elements of the book. I congratulate her hard work which allowed her to work in the banking industry and get promoted. But I was more interested in the personal side of things, for example how she met her husband (that's an excellent segment of the book) and also attaining her strict father's support for the marriage.
The author's approach to writing this memoir is direct and therefore one imagines this is how she would speak in real life. But the tale is told with such verve and energy, it is an enjoyable book that people will find much to like.
The real life stories contained within are things we can all relate to. Things such as ending up in a great city like Toronto, but being sick at the time and told 'you shouldn't go out then'. But this is not the author's approach to life. If you have read her Travel Memoir With Pictures, you will understand what an accomplished traveller this lady is.
There's some surprisingly gory scenes in the book, tempered by some poignant sadness around certain family members, as well as the central theme of how the author made her living in the banking sector.
It's an interesting and very readable memoir from one of the more creative authors out there.

Michelangelo's Masterpiece
In the year 2009, my husband and I accompanied my sister and her family on a trip to Italy.
Included in our trip was a visit to the Vatican in Rome.
There was a long line-up to get in but when we did, it was worth the wait.
We went through the Gallery of the Tapestries and saw the breath-taking masterpieces of Michelangelo’s Dome, Belvedere Courtyard, and many other fabulous rooms with rare paintings.
We sat quietly in the Sistine Chapel and gazed at the magnificent fresco of The Last Judgement by Michelangelo.
While sitting there we were told the meaning the painting conveyed.
It is the belief of Christians that Our Lord will judge us at his Second Coming.
Those who have accepted him are automatically qualified to join him in his kingdom.
Those who have rejected Him in this life, who have no remorse for sins they committed and do not seek forgiveness, will have condemned themselves to hell for all eternity.
The Lord rejects no one.
However, by rejecting God’s grace in this life, one already judges oneself, and receives according to one’s works and can even condemn oneself for all eternity.
When the door separating Good and Evil is closed at The Last Judgment there is no turning back.
We do not know when the Second Coming will occur.
Jesus said, “As to the exact day or hour, no one knows it, neither the angels in heaven nor even the Son, but only the Father.”
Other places in Italy visited
Details of our trip to Italy are documented in "Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the World.

Brenda inspires us through this life opening read. Focusing on the 8 verses in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, she emphasizes how there is a time, a season, for everything; “A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing, etc…”
She breaks down each of these verses and explains them via her own life experiences. A book of reflection, and what is truly important. Simplifying what we have always complicated.
How many of us are prepared for the eventuality of leaving this planet, leaving our body, leaving our loved ones? “My father was one of those who knew that he was going to die and was well prepared.” If you thought along these lines Every day, how would this change your behavior? Living each day like it was your last… Brenda successfully awakens our spirit and motivates us to focus on what’s important around us in this powerful read.

A true story told with pure intentions and true feelings
ByRoma Sinananon May 17, 2014
Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A true story told with pure intentions and deep feelings. It's simplicity and well-scripted chapters grow into each other methodically and freely. The reader is impelled to move on with ease and comfort. There is a pervasive humility in each incident which truly reflects the author's character and personality. Her pride in her heritage and family ties touches deep into the soul and absorbs the attention of the reader. Personal circumstances told, reflect her openness to inform and tutor at the same time, what one can derive from challenges unexpected if rooted in the trust one places in God.
The author's implicit belief in divine intervention summarizes her message. I have enjoyed, I have been touched and have had my personal convictions reiterated in this most interesting and soul searching book. I recommend it to all especially to you who in times when the clouds grow dark- the silver linings emerge to remind us of a light emerging on the other side. This is the author's story.

Review by Readers Favorite:
Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter by Brenda Mohammed is an interesting memoir where the author shares with readers her moments after retirement and how it is a time when everyone should sit back and enjoy life. After reading this book, no one will dread retirement. They will all look forward to it and use that time to enjoy the beauty of life, spend more time with the family, and experience their unconditional love. Retiring from the job does not mean one retires from life because one gets time to appreciate the beauty of unlimited time and use it effectively by doing things they missed out on doing while they were working.
The book is uplifting as it makes everyone who is going to retire look forward to it. The author's experiences and adventures after retirement give readers ideas on how to handle their lives in a good and happy way after retiring from their jobs. Brenda Mohammed shows by example how one's attitude can make a difference to everything and life can be enjoyed at any age, irrespective of whether you are young or not.
The memoir is simple and chronicles the author's life and events, taking readers into her space. The memoir is a good read; readers can connect well with what the author says and the events and experiences in her life, and the way she handles life is tangible. The words of wisdom from Dr Murdoch quoted at the end of the book are very inspirational and will help readers look at life in a positive way. An interesting book for all those who are going to retire from their jobs and want to know how to handle life after that.

"We all face challenges. I have found that 'what doesn't kill you will make you stronger' to be true. I have recently met an inspirational writer Brenda Mohammed and in her book 'Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter' (Amazon) she reveals her triumph over hazardous challenges. Her positive outlook and faith carry her through the difficult phase between her high-profile job in a bank and retirement, but it is in these halcyon days of retirement, that life really throws her a curved ball. No matter what you are going through, make it count and enable growth. You are not alone.

Author Spotlight with Jeffrey Von Glahn
I had an amazing interview with a psychotherapist, Jeffrey Von Glahn. He is a member of the Real Lives Team, a sub-group of Books Go Social.
Tell us a little about yourself
When I was about 14 or 15, I wanted to study the Mind. I wasn’t all that sure what the “Mind” was, but it sounded fascinating. At that time, though, I thought that only psychiatrists did that and that you had to be a genius to be one. Since I didn’t consider myself a genius, nor did anyone else seem to think so, I ditched that idea. After getting an undergraduate degree in physics, I decided I wanted to study human nature instead of physical nature. So I switched to psychology and became a therapist. Best decision I ever made. If I believed in reincarnation, I would want to come back as one. It’s been more exciting than I ever imagined.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
(I’ve changed this question to: When did you first consider that you might be a writer?) When I was in high school, once in a while I received high praise from teachers about an essay I had written. At the time, I couldn’t understand why they said that, in part, because in all subjects I was an average student. The key seemed to be if I found the stated theme of the essay interesting enough, creative impulses I didn’t know I had started operating on their own. I was also aware that I would never have thought of that particular topic on my own.
What inspired you to write your first book?
My only book is Jessica: The autobiography of an infant.
The story was so unique it had to be told. Since I was her therapist, the one who had a front-row seat and saw it all, who else could write it. Besides, there were about 200 hours of audio recordings to listen to. It took me 20 years to write the book, and it took the first eight for me to realize, aided by rejection letters from agents, that even though it’s a true story it has to be written in the style of fiction; i.e.; the appeal is to the reader’s emotions.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Interesting question; not sure I know how to answer it. Here’s what I seem to focus on. I try to have the next sentence clarify further whatever was hinted at in the last sentence and/or needed to be more fully explained. That it is not a formula for how to write fast. It is how to describe/ capture in words, a person’s experiencing. From my many years as a therapist, I’m quite good at sensing what a person is experiencing; i.e., what’s there but not being said.
What are your current projects?
At present, I’m focused on straightening out the theory and practice of psychotherapy. I concluded – though I’m certainly not the only one – that after 120 years it still doesn’t understand itself. Guess what? My major reason for thinking that is because it has yet to understand the client’s experiencing well enough. I seem to be finally getting recognition. I’ve been invited to submit a chapter for a book that’s about “re-envisioning” the theory and practice of psychotherapy.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
In writing for the public; i.e., in the style of fiction, the greatest challenge is how to provide just enough detail to engage the reader’s mind. The human mind is happiest when it has information to process. It tends to shut down, however, when too much info is provided, as in “telling,” though in school that of course is necessary. I think it was Hemingway who said something like: Writing is very easy. All you have to do is to cross out the right words.
Who designed the covers?
The cover was designed by iUniverse, based on my suggestion. Fortunately, I own the rights to it.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
My client’s basic problem was internal. As a friend of mine said, “Too bad she wasn’t an axe murderess.” In her words, she didn’t have a “me.” She made her way through life by doing whatever she sensed was expected of her. When asked a question that had “you” in it, she always gave an answer she hoped would end the conversation. Every time I arrived at a better description of her internal experiencing, I had to go back and re-write all previous descriptions. In her therapy, she discovered that as a newborn her mother’s hurried behavior and not too gentle handling made her feel that the needing, wanting part of her was dangerous. So at the time, her survival instincts said, “Stay away from it!”
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Try to never miss an opportunity to re-read, especially before going to sleep. Your brain will thank you the next time you sit down to write for giving it info to work on during the night. Also, when I’m feeling ambivalent about writing and not sure if I need a break or my mind is rebelling at another attempt at a passage that I’m struggling with, I sit in my writing chair, place my fingertips on the keyboard, and often find that if my brain could speak, it would say, “About time you did that!
What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
Nature/science/human interest programs. Rarely go to the theater, unless it’s a film like Lincoln or Hidden Figures.

Her book is very personal and one can feel as if a friend were relating her travel impressions and giving us her tips. Paradoxically, this personal and openly subjective touch makes the tips about restaurants and other commercial places for tourists sound less biased than a professional guide book where it is often difficult to distinguish an honest review from a paid ad. In this book, we can read real first-hand accounts that are very precious to any explorers and travelers.
This book can inspire us when we plan our next vacation, it can also make us reflect on our own experience and realize what we might have missed when we visited a particular place, but it can also take us to places we do not have time or money to visit anytime soon. It’s also interesting to read a short entry about places that we consider our home since we cannot always see what makes them special unless we step away and look at them from a distance through a tourist’s eyes.
I found it exciting to read about places I visited and lived since the author has a keen eye and often notices thinks I don’t. But her chapter on Trinidad and Tobago, a place I have not been to, was probably the most interesting one to me. The author was born there and seems to know it very well. The ghost stories about the village of Lopinot make me want to visit and explore the place.

Author Spotlight with Mary Thorpe
Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Mary Thorpe, a retired Social Worker and Author.
She has written a moving family tale, “That’s Just How It Was," through which much can be gleaned about life during the push for Irish independence. The book is the biography of her remarkable grandmother, Bridget O’Rourke.
Tell us a little about yourself
*I am a retired Social Worker {Manager] I have five children and seven grandchildren.
As a Social Worker, I felt the driving need to record my grandmother’s story, in recognition of Bridget’s harsh life and also as a tribute to her and the millions of others like her.
These were people who made the best of things whilst still retaining a sense of pride, of the worth of education as a ticket out of poverty, and of the importance of retaining one’s dignity and commitment to the family through good and bad times, while acknowledging that Bridget possessed the old Irish good luck as well, in marrying a good man and in gaining the sponsorship of her patron, N. Stanislav Murphy.
This is from the Foreword .. but I could not have written it as good myself.
Within Bridget’s story, however, Mary is also writing about an era of tough times, and she acknowledges ‘these roots’ as the make-up of her own resilient Irish character. She is proud of her grandmother’s achievements, especially with regard to the life chances Bridget was able to create for her family – and rightly so!
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
*Yes.It is a Historical Biographical story about my grandmother's life, and it was through these harsh times that many thousands of Irish people emigrated to many, many foreign shores... I would like to believe that this book would help them understand their history and the reasons why immigration was so right.
Are your writings based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
*My Grandmother's life.

*A Local historian in Bray Co Wicklow called Henry Cairns
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
*Yes... I would read more of the history first.
Basically, it was my granny's story and I now wish that I had put more effort into it about Irish History.
Although she walked through that history, I would leave some things out and put others in.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
The research and then trying to sell it are challenges.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Yes . I would like them to read the book, and gain an understanding of why Irish people left their native land and all the reasons for it.
If they could find that understanding, then I believe that I had told the story well.
Other than writing do you have any hobbies?
Knitting/crochet .. my grandchildren

Murder mysteries

Author Spotlight with Ann Marie Mershon
Today I am chatting with Ann Marie Mershon, a former English Teacher from Minneapolis.
Her Memoir on living in Turkey has 55 reviews on Amazon.
Now, that is impressive!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a retired English teacher, adventurer, and writer (duh!).
I was raised in a Minneapolis suburb and moved to the wilderness of northern Minnesota as soon as I could.
I’m energized by nature and try to ski, hike, bike, kayak or swim every day.
I decided to take up writing when I took a career development course as a part of a counseling degree.
I realized that I was ignoring the creative part of myself and decided that writing would blend well with my teaching career.
I also wanted to write for young people—I love kids.
I wrote a newspaper column about health, travel, and fitness for five years as well as publishing a number of articles for both local and national publications.
I’ve published three books to date, a children’s historical novel, a walking tour guide for Istanbul, and a memoir about my years in Turkey.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I was taking a course in writing for children at the Grand Marais Art Colony, and I’d just read a short family history written by a neighbor.
It touched me deeply and I decided to ask her permission to write a children’s book based on her family’s emigration to Minnesota.
That was the beginning of a treasured connection with Eleanor and her family.
Sadly, she died before Britta’s Journey was published.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
My memoir, You must only to love them, is an account of my years teaching high school in Istanbul.
I wrote the book because I wanted people to see and feel the warmth of the Turkish people and their Muslim culture.
It breaks my heart that so many people are afraid of Muslims when it is one of the most gentle faiths in the world.
Are your writings based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
My years in Turkey changed my life, particularly my perspective on America and its place in the world.
All of the events in the book are true, and though I’ve changed a few names, all the characters in the book are people who touched my life.
I’m only sorry I had to leave so many out; the first version of my memoir was far too long, so I had to revise out a lot of precious friends.
What are your current projects?
I’m working on a sequel to Britta’s Journey, continuing Eleanor’s family saga to Minnesota.
In the first book, I only got them from Finland to Ellis Island.
I was amazed at how that book wrote itself even though I had a clear outline.
Historical fiction is great fun to write.
I also have a half-finished version of my time in Turkey viewed through my little dog’s eyes. Libby was my sidekick and toured much of Turkey with me. Her favorite part of Turkey was the cats, which are much more fun to chase than chipmunks.
Do you see writing as a career?
I guess I see writing as a passion more than a career.
I’ve been doing it for years, and I get up early every morning to get in a few hours of writing.
I enjoy both writing and revision, but I HATE marketing, as I imagine most writers do.
I’m trying, though, and maybe this year my income will exceed my expenses. Who knows? I have to admit, my writing business has been a great tax write-off, and it’s brought income for the past fifteen years. Not much, though, and certainly not enough to live on.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
I doubt there’s any writer who would say their work was perfect.
I think I was happiest with my tour guide, because it was cut-and-dried factual stuff.
At a workshop once a writer said, “You know you’re done with a book when you can’t bear to look at it another time.”
Revision is a continuing process, and it’s hard to stop and say, “Enough!”
My memoir is not perfect, but it’s done.
There’s a lot I’d love to improve on, but it was time to move on.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
My favorite book in the world is To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.
I taught that book to ninth graders for years, and I read it aloud a few times.
It’s a book with passion, depth, humor, and a strong message.
Harper developed interesting and believable characters, and her empathetic treatment of all the characters in the book deeply touched me. I have yet to enjoy a book (or a writer) more.
Who designed your covers?
I had a friend design the cover of Britta’s Journey, and I chose the photo for the cover of Istanbul’s Bazaar District, though the publisher had an artist do the final cover design.
I put together the main design of my memoir, which I self-published through Amazon.
I asked my son, a graphic designer, for advice on the design, and he improved the graphics for me.
So basically, I had input on all three covers but had help from professionals as well.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
I wrote a YA novel in a year and submitted it to two publishers, who rejected it.
I was totally discouraged.
I learned two important lessons from that experience:
1.Read, read, read and write, write, write.
Also take advantage of every workshop, seminar, and course that you can. I continue to attend workshops regularly. They’re both educational and motivating.
2. Don’t let rejection slips discourage you.
I could wallpaper my office with all the rejection notices I’ve received, but I soldiered on.
I’m not alone.
There is no end of writers, both famous and inconsequential, who have received scores—no, hundreds of rejection letters.
Hang in there! Katharine Stockett was rejected by 60 agents before one finally agreed to represent The Help, which subsequently spent 100 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
