Review:

An intriguing start of a promising series.
Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a story about a mad scientist who got really mad.
Brenda Mohammed shows us the first consequences of his madness in this clever story about a virus outbreak leading to an emergence of strange zombie-like people. T
The fast pace and amount of action keep this story thrilling.
At the same time, the author manages to give us a glimpse of the main characters' feelings that do not concern the zombies directly.
We can observe a young doctor planning her marriage and her admirer's disappointment.
This seems to be a plot within the main plot, and it makes this story more complex, the characters easier to relate to, which is not easy to achieve in such a short story that is packed with action.
Yet there is a final twist that reveals to us that personal lives of the main protagonists may be infected by Zeeka's influence more than it seems at first glance.
I can even imagine this book as a good movie.

Best Books I have read in 2018

My Review
Paradise Boundby Rafaele Desire is an amazing story of a young woman doctor torn between three lovers - a pilot, an artist, and an actor.
It was a difficult choice for her.
This book held my interest throughout because I have been to many of the places the author wrote about.
I visited Paris, Los Angeles, New York, the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, Hollywood, and sat on Malibu Beach, etc.
I also live on a small Caribbean island.
This book written by Author Rafaele Desire brought back so many memories.
The author’s vivid descriptions of the places Natalie lived and frequented kept me reading, and turning the pages.
This is a new author waiting to be discovered.
I loved this story and recommend it to all.
About the Author
Born in Paris to a French literature teacher and a physician, Rafaele Desire was raised in the French Caribbean island of Martinique. An artistic child who loved reading above all, she chose science over literature when she moved back to France to become an orthodontist, and soon afterward, a trip to the United States radically changed her life. She studied fine arts at Otis/Parsons, film production at NYU, and tried her hand at acting and graphic design. Rafaele Desire is a painter, writer, Tai Chi instructor, and she practices orthodontics in Los Angeles where she lives with her two amazing daughters. Paradise Bound is her first novel.

Review
A Love Relentless by Ju Ephraime is a fascinating account of a love affair in Alaska.
ByBrenchrison March 7, 2018
Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am happy that I came across A LOVE RELENTLESS written by Author Ju Ephraim.
I always wondered about life in Alaska and this book taught me all about that.
This was a fascinating and intriguing account of two lovers.
Liz left her village and learned to live independently after a failed arranged marriage.
She returned after a few years to decide if she should accept her deceased Aunt Edna’s gift of the expansive homestead.
Rohan was looking to purchase the property.
Their coincidental meeting because of Liz’s inheritance from her Aunt Edna brought them together in spite of Liz’s attempts to resist him.
The author related the story in a way that kept me turning the pages.
I could not put it down.
I loved it and recommend to all lovers of romance novels.

About the Author

Presently, she resides in CT where she has lived with her family for the past thirty years. She still misses her time on the sunny Caribbean islands but takes pleasure in using them as backdrops to some of her stories.

Review
A Long and Winding Road is an amazing story of love and bravery.
It is a story of the love for one's parents when they can no longer care for themselves.
It is also a story of bravery by two loving people who proceed on a seven-week trip on a forty foot motorhome taking along their ailing parents.
Of course, there were problems and chaos, but none bigger than the love shared by those four people.
The author did a beautiful portrayal of the trip and added some much-needed humour.
The book was never boring.
I recommend it to all.

About the Author

After 15 years as a family caregiver, Linda Brendle began writing to encourage, inspire and amuse other caregivers.
She loves to travel and, since retiring, she has traveled mostly by motorcycle and RV. She and her husband live in a small East Texas town where she enjoys gardening, writing and taking an active part in her church.

The book received a five-star review from IHIBRP

"A Time to Read: A Beautiful and Soulful Tale about Trust and Belief in the Lord!

Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

Having herself experienced a lifetime of tragedy and joy, Author Brenda Mohammed assumes the mantle of theologian/philosopher in her quest to understand and explain the elegance and meaning found in the biblical verses extolled in Ecclesiastes 3. In "Your TIME is NOW: A Time to be Born and a Time to Die", Mohammed fully examines each memorable and precious verse and applies them to her own life experiences. In doing so, she takes the reader on a journey through a lifetime filled with trials and tribulations, despair and hope, loss and success. The author eloquently defines Ecclesiastes 3, pointing out that, by freely accepting God's will, she has been amply blessed with a faithful family, loyal mentors, good friends, and a full life. She successfully leaves her readers with a message of hope and inspiration by sharing her belief that, through introspection and prayer, one may find meaning within the events of their own everyday experiences. She appears to be a firm proponent to the old adage, "When days seem at their darkest, surrendering and trusting in the divine will ensure peace and prosperity". All in all, I found this book to be quite engaging. The author's reflections on her childhood were beyond charming in some spots, yet brought me to tears in others. Her candidness about her relationships with parents, siblings, husband, and her own children reminded me so much of my own family's saga, and I must admit that I was thrilled to find a read that tugged at my heartstrings the way this book did! For any individual seeking solace and meaning in today's hectic world, "Your TIME is NOW: A Time to be Born and a Time to Die" is a beautiful and soulful read. Thank you, Brenda Mohammed, for sharing your journey with me!"

REVIEW

A questionable character returns from one of the previous books to cause even more disarray in the lives of the people and robots of Gosh. Dr. Steven Sharpe's reputation is put on the line when he attempts an unimaginable cure to help a man desperate for a new life. Resurrection is the fifth book and closes (maybe!) the Zeeka series on a high note. Like its predecessors, I found this book easy to read. However, this one, in particular, left me with a sense of fulfillment because the author finally seemed to put Zeeka to rest peacefully.

REVIEW

A thrilling story showing the tight connection between Zeeka and his adopted son, Stephen
Format: Paperback
In this fourth story of the Zeeka series, Zeeka's ghost returns to warn Stephen about an impending threat to his life.
Not only does the ghost warn Stephen, but he actually helps Stephen defend himself from the bad guys who try to kill him
because they are unsatisfied with the money they received as compensation for the loss of their loved ones during Zeeka's rampage
in his lifetime.

The author puts a remarkable twist in the story when she turns Zeeka into the good guy who is now showing concern for the welfare of his illegally adopted child.
Zeeka is actually trying to atone for his sins and to get a peaceful burial after he committed suicide in prison.

At this point, Stephen and his wife, Mandy, are happily married and living on the lsland on Gosh appears normal.
Stephen is successful in his medical career and does some outstanding work on Alzhaimer's disease.
He discovers a cure and is honored with a prestigious prize. Mandy works as a nurse at the sane hospital as her husband and they have a comfortable life.

In the midst of his happiness, Stephen is tormented by the appearance of Zeeka's ghost.
However, the ghost turns out to be useful when Mandy
is captured by the evil guys and Stephen goes to rescue her by himself.
It is at this point that the bad guys are remarkably struck down by Zeeka, who is visible only to Stephen. Stephen is then able to take away his wife.

This clever turn of events in the plot keeps the reader engaged in this exciting story as he or she reads to find out what will happen next.
Once one starts to read the book, it is difficult to stop. It is interesting and suspenseful and holds the readers' interest.
It takes place in an idealistic, futuristic world where life turns out well for those who are honest and hard-working.
Problems are quickly resolved and good triumphs over evil in the end.

All in all, this story is a wonderful addition to the Zeeka trilogy by the same author.
The work is clearly constructed and the prose is easy to read, as characteristic of the author's style. Congratulations to the author for another well-done piece!

In Revenge of Zeeka by Brenda Mohammed, the island of Gosh is under attack by an army of zombies under the command of a vengeful science genius. In the year 2016, the Zika virus broke out in Central and South America with life-threatening effects for pregnant women.
Given a choice to save the mothers or the unborn babies, a decision was made to save the mothers.
The tiny stillborns were securely and secretly buried.
Only a few people knew of this.
Unknown to everyone, however, a certain scientist managed to get hold of all 51 bodies, bring them back to life, and condition them to follow his command, creating himself a perfect army of zombies.
Now, twenty years later, the evil scientist seeks revenge on those he holds responsible for the stillbirths.
Only three of the current doctors at Central Hospital - Raynor, Mark, and George - witnessed the unfortunate events of 2016.
The three have strong suspicions about who might be controlling the zombies. Meanwhile, Zeeka is lying in wait for the perfect time to unleash his army onto the island. Zeeka has big, evil plans and this is just the beginning. In a desperate search for answers, and with very little to go on, the doctors search for the elusive Master Zeeka.
Will they save the islanders from Zeeka and his zombies, or will it be too late?
Revenge of Zeeka, by Brenda Mohammed, is a one of a kind novella trilogy that delivers an incredible story guaranteed to give readers an absolute sci-fi treat.
I especially liked how Brenda used current events as the pivotal point from which to build this amazing sci-fi horror.
This made the story even more relatable.
More importantly, however, I admired how she owned her story and created this captivating version of events.
She captured with an amazing depth the setting, characters, plot, and emotions in such few words.
If you are looking for a thrilling short read, this fast-paced, sci-fi action novella will give you the time of your life.

This book is a must-read for all fans of the Zeeka series. The book four seemed to conclude the thrilling story and could easily be the last one in the series, but the author surprised me with the fifth book and did not disappoint. Even though the ghost of Zeeka already found his final rest in the book four, someone else who had appeared to be dead, reappears by Zeeka’s grave in Resurrection. One could think that the title of the book points out to his resurrection from the dead, but nothing is as it seems at first glance. Steven and his team of scientists are working on a breakthrough invention in medicine, which can cure severely disabled patients in a way that resembles resurrection. While the series started with possible abuse of medical technology, the last book leaves us hopeful that technology can one day serve us better than most of us can imagine.

Michelangelo's Masterpiece

In the year 2009, my husband and I accompanied my sister and her family on a trip to Italy.
Included in our trip was a visit to the Vatican in Rome.
There was a long line-up to get in but when we did, it was worth the wait.
We went through the Gallery of the Tapestries and saw the breath-taking masterpieces of Michelangelo’s Dome, Belvedere Courtyard, and many other fabulous rooms with rare paintings.
We sat quietly in the Sistine Chapel and gazed at the magnificent fresco of The Last Judgement by Michelangelo.

While sitting there we were told the meaning the painting conveyed.
It is the belief of Christians that Our Lord will judge us at his Second Coming.
Those who have accepted him are automatically qualified to join him in his kingdom.
Those who have rejected Him in this life, who have no remorse for sins they committed and do not seek forgiveness, will have condemned themselves to hell for all eternity.
The Lord rejects no one.
However, by rejecting God’s grace in this life, one already judges oneself, and receives according to one’s works and can even condemn oneself for all eternity.
When the door separating Good and Evil is closed at The Last Judgment there is no turning back.
We do not know when the Second Coming will occur.
Jesus said, “As to the exact day or hour, no one knows it, neither the angels in heaven nor even the Son, but only the Father.”

Other places in Italy visited

Details of our trip to Italy are documented in "Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the World.

Why I Wrote Memoirs

The following is an extract from an article by Rachel McGrath of Indies United Facebook Group.

Brenda Mohammed is a multi-genre author living in Trinidad and Tobago who has now written and published sixteen books.
Six of her books are memoirs and so we asked Brenda to share what instigated her journey to write such personal stories and share them with the world.

Brenda's response:

When I retired from the Bank at an early age, I was depressed.
Everyone in my family noticed that in the weeks leading up to my retirement that my demeanour had changed.
I had ceased to be jovial and fun loving.
My husband and my sisters did their best to brighten up my days and I managed to force a smile or a giggle to appease them, but no one realized that I was feeling as if I had come to the end of my life.
I went through the motions at the grand retirement party, which the bank staff hosted at a popular restaurant in South Trinidad.
Customers and staff were present.
The ambience was enchanting, and the speeches were great.
Superiors, colleagues, customers, and staff showered me with praises and gifts.
Their words brought tears to my eyes. However, all I could think about was, ‘What lies ahead for me?’

Fortunately, for me, my husband had planned a trip for both of us to attend a friend’s wedding in Virginia in the USA.
We left the morning after the retirement party.
All during the flight, I kept remembering the words of the many who spoke at the party.
It all seemed like a dream.
When we arrived in Virginia, I felt relaxed.
Virginia is remarkably beautiful.
We had so much fun over the next three weeks that I forgot all about the bank.

We returned home after a glorious vacation. I gave away all of my working clothes as I felt that I no longer needed them.
I decided to dabble in art.
Out of nowhere, my talent for art surfaced and I painted several pieces, which I framed and hung in my library.
I applied for other jobs and received positive responses from many firms.
I accepted a job in an Insurance Company, and of course had to buy a new wardrobe of clothes.
Since I did not have to work full time, I needed something else to keep me busy.
It was then that I decided to write My Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living.
The book has been very popular with fellow bankers in Trinidad.
I revised the book in 2014, published it on Amazon and Create Space, and donated copies to the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, and my Alma Mater St. Augustine Girls’ High School.
My Life as a Banker - A Life worth Living" is a banker's memoir, in which I describe changes in the banking system and changes in the bank's attitude to its employees throughout my working years in a Trinidad bank, with ties in the United Kingdom.
Personal details of my life are the highlights of the memoir.
Reviewers have described the book as Fascinating, Intriguing, Inspiring, Positive, Heartwarming, and Motivational.

Later on, I was having so much fun as a retiree, that I wrote, Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter.
The book is a sequel to "My Life as a Banker - A Life Worth Living."
I learned through my many experiences at the end of my banking career, that retirement is a time to enjoy life.
I faced many challenges such as cancer, deaths of loved ones, and an accident in Miami, which made her realize that life is very short. On the other hand, I landed a new job in an Insurance company and had numerous travel opportunities after I left my job at the bank. I have proven that when one retires from a first job one does not retire from life.

My recovery from cancer inspired me to write another memoir, I am Cancer Free.
It is a book about my battle with Ovarian Cancer.
The killer disease threatened my life and financial well- being.
My strong faith in God saw me through all the trials I had to undergo.
Cancer does not have to be a death sentence.

My career in the Insurance Industry was successful.
I qualified each year for membership in The Million Dollar Round Table [The Premier Association for Financial Professionals], and this gave me many opportunities to travel to different parts of the United States to attend conferences.
My frequent travels worldwide prompted me to write another memoir, Travel Memoirs with Pictures: Exploring the World.
It is an entertaining book filled with reflections of my travels around the world.
I also relate the family adventures and treat readers to a pictorial story of priceless memories.
I describe places visited and the wonderful times my family and I had in our tourist trips.
The book is great to read while on a vacation or for some travel inspiration.

I was later inspired to write yet another memoir – Your Time is Now: A Time to be Born and a Time to die.
I had a driving force within me to write this one.
I based the content on powerful words spoken by King Solomon in the Book of Ecclesiastes about times and seasons. "There is a time to be born and a time to die, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven."

Both My Life as a Banker: A Life worth Living and Retirement is Fun: A New Chapter were nominated in the Category Bio/Memoirs for Metamorph Publishing Summer Indie Book Awards 2016.

Could Retirement be Fun?

TOP REVIEWS

A well-written chronicle of the author's experiences and adventures since her retirement from a long career in the bank
By Arabella Persaud on August 26, 2014
Five stars
Format: Paperback
This inspiring book tells of the many adventures experienced by the author after retiring from a banking career at a youthful age.
She talks about her new career in the insurance business and narrates, with meticulous detail, the many wonderful experiences
in her new life including the birth of her grandchildren, her meeting of new friends, her travels abroad, and her continued enjoyment of life. For her, life certainly did not stop at retirement.

Throughout the book, the author demonstrates a positive outlook on everything that happens in her life. Not only did she endure wonderful experiences, but she also had a bout with cancer and a terrible accident in Miami. She interprets these negative events in a positive light by using them to show how her faith helped her to overcome these obstacles.

The author's appreciation of life is evident as she treasures every moment with her family and the time she shares with them.

As in her previous books, the author once again exhibits a remarkable memory for details as she provides a meticulous description of all her activities since retirement. The style is simple and readable.

The book shows that life certainly does not end when one retires.
Life continues and one must live with a positive and determined spirit to continue experiencing the joy of life
and to discover one's hidden talents.

I enjoyed the positive spirit shown by the author in this book. She demonstrates that it is one's attitude that counts towards one's enjoyment of life.

This book is recommended for all retirees or persons contemplating retirement.

Poems to awaken your soul - The Miracle at the Wedding at Cana

POEMS TO AWAKEN YOUR SOUL This poem is taken from the section "Poems to Awaken your Soul" at the back of :Your Time is Now":

THE MIRACLE AT THE WEDDING AT CANA [John Chapter 2; 1-12]

Jesus attended a wedding celebration with his mother.
The wine supply ran out at this wedding in Cana.
Jesus’ mother turned to Jesus for help.
But Jesus replied that his time had not come yet.

His mother left it up to Jesus and told the servants to assist.
Six large stone water pots were standing there in the midst.
Jesus told the servants to fill them with water to the brim.
The servants did what he said and listened to him.

When the jars had been filled Jesus told the servants to dip.
And take some to the master of ceremonies” and they followed his tip.
The master of ceremonies tasted the wine and remarked to the host.
“You have saved the best wine for last. You are a great host.’

When I wrote this poem I had not yet visited Paris and The Louvre Museum of Paintings. I visited Paris in August 2014 and I was thrilled to see that there was a painting of "The Wedding Feast at Cana" by Italian Painter Paolo Veronese. It was the largest painting in the Louvre. I bought a copy.

This is what is stated in the records at The Louvre: "

In 1553, Veronese was summoned to Venice where he gave free rein to his decorative talent in vast canvases that blended masterful composition, splendid contemporary costumes, and luminous colors. The Wedding Feast at Cana graced the refectory designed by Palladio for the Benedictine monastery on the Venetian island of San Giorgio Maggiore. With masterly freedom of interpretation, Veronese transposed the biblical episode to the sumptuous setting of a Venetian wedding." For those of you who do not know the Biblical story of this event I quote from a write-up by the Louvre, Paris below: "A biblical scene within a Venetian banquet In Cana, Galilee, Christ is invited to a wedding feast during which he performs his first miracle. At the end of the banquet, when the wine is running low, he asks the servants to fill the stone jars with water and then offer them to the master of the house, who finds that the water has been turned to wine. This episode, told by the Apostle John, is a precursor of the Eucharist. The bride and groom are seated at the left end of the table, leaving the center place to the figure of Christ. He is surrounded by the Virgin, his disciples, clerks, princes, Venetian noblemen, Orientals in turbans, several servants, and the populace. Some figures are dressed in traditional antique costumes, while others—the women in particular—wear sumptuous coiffures and adornments. Veronese depicts, with apparent ease, no less than 130 feast-goers, mixing biblical figures with men and women of the period. The latter are not really identifiable, although according to an 18th-century legend, the artist himself is depicted in white with a viola da gamba next to Titian and Bassano, all of whom contribute to the musical entertainment. The bearded master of ceremonies could be Aretino, whom Veronese greatly admired. Several dogs, birds, a parakeet, and a cat frolic amidst the crowd.

A Most Embarassing Moment in my Life

The following is an extract from my book "My Life as a Banker - A life Worth Living"

It was one of the most embarrassing moments in my life.
The incident happened after a most wonderful vacation in Orlando.

"We then went to Miami where we spent a few days in a hotel so that we could do some shopping. On the day we were about to return home we were awakened at four o’clock in the morning by the loud ringing of the fire alarm. We heard other hotel guests shouting, “Fire! Fire!’ We jumped off our beds and started panicking. I grabbed all of our passports and tickets and left everything else in the room. We ran out the room and followed some other guests down the fire escape. When we finally got to the bottom of the stairs we saw everyone staring at us. They said it was a false alarm but they still kept staring at us. I suddenly realized that I was in a long see-through night-gown with all the passports and tickets in my hand. My husband was in his short pants and my sister and the children were in their night clothes too. My daughter who was just five years old was hiding behind me and she said that she saw everyone staring at us through my night-gown. We rushed back to our rooms in embarrassment, and although it was rather early we got dressed immediately and went to the airport to await our flight back home."

Read about it in my book.
